Bio
Art has spanned my entire life. At a very early age I exhibited
a recognizable artistic ability by sculpting a sitting dog,
which is still in existence and displayed in my parents home even today.
Though I never attended a school of higher learning to enhance my talents,
I would take an occasional class from local art teachers. Basically I was
self-taught and have utilized my natural artistic abilities in various
careers throughout my life. In my twenties while working for a public school
system in California, I drew the graphic arts for the school's programs
and announcements. After hours I learned how to do silver smithing and
lapidary work from my mother, who gave private instruction in that medium.
In my thirties I moved to Hollywood and entered into the Motion Picture
Industry and became vested as an Editor in the now obsolete Local
776. I became known as having an natural established artistic ability,
that helped me obtain significant work in that medium. I can actually claim
that a sculpture I had made in the mid 1980's landed me a job with Richard
Anderson of Weddington Productions in North Hollywood, due to the high
quality of work involved in the sculpture which led me to accumulate credits
in the films Robocop, Harry and the Henersons, Cocktail, and many more.
During this time, I utilized the Lost wax casting I had learned and integrated
my sculpting abilities into it, by creating pieces to sell at assorted
sales events in the southern California area. Placing my work in a "gallery"
never entered my mind as I was able to sell the pieces I created in private
sales and got my ego strokes by being acclaimed in other mediums.
In 1996 we moved to southeast Missouri to be near my husbands mother during
her declining years. During the last several years here, I have begun several
enterprises, including opening a small shop in the Arcadia Academy in Ironton,
Missouri. Here I offered classes in the various talents I have acquired
during my life, and sold my creations. My focus soon returned
to working with clay, the medium that came so naturally to me and I decided
to bring my endeavors home with me and open my studio and shop where I
live. I soon found that I had the beginnings of a clientele who appreciated
my work and came from various places around the United States stopping
by to purchase one of my creations. |
